Arab Violence Continues Inside Israel
“The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.” (Joel 2:31)
A 72-hour Egyptian-brokered ceasefire seems to be holding between Israel and Gaza. It went into effect Tuesday at 8:00 a.m., but not before Hamas fired off a last-minute salvo of rockets at communities throughout Israel.
Because Hamas seems to be honoring this ceasefire, Israel has sent a delegation to Cairo to join Palestinian factions for long-term truce talks.
Meanwhile, Jerusalem seems to be on the brink of a third intifada as Arab violence incited by Fatah and Hamas boils over in the Jerusalem neighborhoods, the Temple Mount, and elsewhere in Israel.
The world-shaking events of the last month give us every indication that we are living in prophetic days that are leading up to Yeshua (Jesus) coming back as the King Messiah to reign in Jerusalem.
They were preceded by what many are proclaiming a celestial sign: the first eclipse of the year, which coincided with the first night of Passover. This eclipse will be followed by three consecutive lunar eclipses coinciding with the Jewish feasts of Sukkot in 2014 and Passover and Sukkot again in 2015. It is a rare celestial event called the Blood Moon Tetrad.
Because the moon turns red (from the reflection of all the sunsets and sunrises around the earth) as it passes through the earth’s shadow, some call the eclipse a Blood Moon. (YouTube capture)
This series of four eclipses occurs at approximately six month intervals. Over the last 2,000 years, there have been eight such Tetrads coinciding with the Jewish festivals of Passover and Sukkot, and recent ones have also coincided with major events in Jewish history:
  • The Tetrad of 1493–94 occurred after the expulsion of Jews from Spain, which took place in 1492.
  • The Tetrad of 1949–50, followed the establishment of the modern-day independent State of Israel and the subsequent War of Independence. In 1949, Israel had its first legislative election. The Israeli Knesset (government) was moved to Jerusalem on King George Street, and Prime Minister Ben Gurion declared Jerusalem the eternal capital of Israel.
  • The Tetrad of 1967–68 coincided with the 1967 Six-Day War and the reuniting of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Now, after the first Blood Moon Tetrad of 2014–2015, dramatic events continue to unfold, including the following:
  • Hamas and Fatah united as one government,
  • Three Jewish teens kidnapped and murdered,
  • Full scale war with Gaza, and
  • Continuing Arab riots and acts of terrorism in Jerusalem, the Temple Mount, and throughout Israel.
The only non-Muslim entrance to the Temple Mount is through a wooden bridge leading up to the Mughrabi (Moor’s) Gate on the far south-eastern corner of the Western Wall Plaza.
On Tuesday afternoon, on Tisha B’Av, a security guard near the police station in Ma’aleh Adumim, which is close to Jerusalem, was moderately wounded when a Palestinian stabbed him. The assailant escaped into a nearby village.
On Tuesday morning, masked men threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at police near the Mughrabi Gate at the Temple Mount compound. The police contained the violence by pushing the rioters back into the Al-Aqsa Mosque before the Mount could be reopened to Jewish worshipers.
On Monday just before the beginning of the fast of Tisha B’Av, Israeli police were called in to keep the peace in Jerusalem as Arabs rioted in East Jerusalem.
Israeli police on the Temple Mount
On Monday morning, Arab youths threw stones and fireworks at police forces at the Mughrabi Gate. In the afternoon, masked Palestinians threw Molotov cocktails at police forces in the Isawiya neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
Also on Monday, Naif al-Ja’abis from the Arab neighborhood Jabel Mukaber used a large construction excavator as a weapon of terror. He hit Rabbi Avraham Walles, a 29-year-old father of five as he was walking to work at a nearby construction site.
The attacker then used the arm of the digger to overturn a passenger bus, slightly injuring the driver and four others. Police in the area shot and killed the Palestinian driver before he could continue to kill and maim. It is not the first time heavy equipment has been used to kill Israelis, and Hamas was quick to praise the act of terrorism and call for more:
„Obviously it was a local initiative no matter what organization he belonged to,“ a Hamas spokesman in Qatar said. „We rely on the West Bank and look forward to even more extensive activity. We understand the difficult conditions in the West Bank, but they have the opportunity to act. We call on them to perform further acts of heroism, even independently.“ (i24)
The IDF discovered motorcycles within Hamas terrorist tunnels, along with weapons, explosives and food.
Just a few hours later, a gunman on a motorcycle opened fire on a hitchhiking station on Mt. Scopus in East Jerusalem.
The gunman shot and seriously wounded a 20-year-old soldier. Several others were also injured.
Arab rioting has been so active that in the past month alone, over 450 suspected rioters have been arrested and over 150 indictments have been filed.
The rioting and murders happened as Israel unilaterally called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The 7-hour “humanitarian window” came as health officials in Gaza declare an estimated 1,800 Palestinians. Israel estimates that at least 900 of those killed are militants. As many as a fourth of Gaza’s 1.8 million residents have been displaced. (BBC)
The ceasefire was designed to allow hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes. It was planned to last until 5 p.m. Monday, local time.
Hamas largely ignored the humanitarian ceasefire, however, and continued to fire rockets into Israel. It isn’t the first ceasefire that Hamas has violated.
On Thursday, the UN and the US announced a 72-hour ceasefire that was to go into effect at 8 a.m. Friday morning.
Within an hour and a half, Israeli soldiers at work dismantling a tunnel in Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, were attacked by terrorists.
One terrorist detonated an explosive vest killing two Israeli soldiers and a third, Lieutenant Goldin, was believed to have been captured. He was later declared dead when body parts found at the scene were proven by DNA testing to belong to him.

Israel has faced strong criticism from the US administration and the UN for strikes that have resulted in civilian casualties in Gaza.
Last week, the UN Human Rights Council even demanded that Israel and America supply Gazans with Iron Dome systems to defend themselves against Israeli air strikes.
As well, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said in a statement that the world should impose a political solution on Israel.
The statement followed Palestinian accusations that an Israeli air strike on Sunday killed 10 people and wounded about 30 in a UN-run school in the southern Gaza Strip.

„This is why we need a political solution, of which the components are known, and which I believe should be imposed by the international community, because the two parties—despite countless efforts—have unfortunately shown themselves incapable of completing talks,“ the statement read.
„Ceasefire, imposition of a two-state solution and security for Israel—there is no other way,“ he added.
In an earlier press conference, the US President said, “It’s hard to reconcile Israel’s legitimate need to defend itself with our concern for those civilians. And if we can pause the fighting, it’s possible we may be able to arrive at a formula that spares lives and also ensures Israel’s security. But it’s difficult, and I don’t think we should pretend otherwise.” (NYT)
Hopefully, as talks happen in Cairo, such a formula will be found.
Nevertheless, Hamas and terrorist activity continue.
Until Hamas is disarmed, it is unlikely that the bombing will stop for long.
So, ultimately it is possible that this season of Blood Moons occurring on the Jewish holidays of Passover and Sukkot in 2014 and 2015 may signal a time of international intervention, and pressure on Israel to restrain itself in the face of Hamas aggression and terrorism, and even perhaps, to divide Jerusalem in an imposed two-state solution.
Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on the world’s Muslims to arm Hamas against Israel.
Iran Calls on Muslims to Arm Hamas against Israel
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)
Last Tuesday, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on the world’s Muslims to rearm Hamas against Israel.
“The people resist unabated. This is a lesson for all,” said Iran’s supreme leader at a speech for the Muslim festival Eid al-Fitr, a feast to break the fast of Ramadan.
Khamenei added that while President Barack Obama supports disarming Gaza, “We say the opposite. The world and especially the Islamic world should arm … the Palestinian people.”
Iran’s goal to wipe Israel off the face of the map parallels the goal of the Hamas charter, which states in Article Twenty-Eight, “Israel, by virtue of its being Jewish and of having a Jewish population, defies Islam and the Muslims.”
Other extremist groups committed to the Jews’ annihilation include Somalia’s jihadist group Al-Shabab. On July 27, the group issued a sermon at a Barawa mosque telling Muslims worldwide to avenge their fellow Muslims in Gaza by attacking Jews.
“The Jews are spread out throughout the world, and the Jews’ properties are spread everywhere. In light of this, the Muslims must attack the Jews and their properties in every place, and they must pray for their brothers in Gaza,” said Al-Shabab spokesperson Ali Dhere.
With an uptick in anti-Semitic acts all over the globe due to Operation Protective Edge, such incitement does not bode well for the ceasefire or for the safety of Jews living outside Israel, especially at this time in Europe.

“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.” (Luke 6:27)
Israel’s military action in Gaza, Operation Protective Edge, has given rise to an anti-Semitic backlash in Europe with a great variety of threats against Jewish people, including attacks, bomb threats, physical attacks on synagogues, and even “Hitler was right” banners in protest rallies.
The backlash has led Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky to comment, according to Britain’s Sunday Times, “We are seeing the beginning of the end of Jewish history in Europe.”

The spread of anti-Semitic demonstrations in Europe and throughout the world resulted in a special session of the Israeli Knesset to discuss the issue last week in Jerusalem. Present at the meeting were members of the Knesset and Jewish leaders condemning this new outbreak of hatred toward the Jewish People.
The meeting, which was called by the Knesset Diaspora Committee involved speakers representing Jewish communities from countries throughout Europe including France, Greece, Hungary, Belgium, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, Germany and Italy.

Representing the German Jewish community, Nathan Norman Gelbart, the head of Germany’s Keren Hayesod (United Jewish Appeal), said that Jews living in Germany are alarmed by demonstrators shouting “death to the Jews” and other anti-Semitic slogans, saying, “These are things that have not occurred since 1933.” (Times of Israel)

At least one European newspaper is taking a stand against this growing trend.
In a campaign entitled “Never Again Jew Hatred,” the German paper the Bild started speaking out against anti-Semitism. The article which appeared on the paper’s front page included pictures of German leaders, such as Chancellor Angela Merkel, alongside statements denouncing anti-Semitism. (Israel HaYom)

Some of the leaders speaking out against anti-Semitism include:
German president, Joachim Gauck: “I want to call on all people to raise their voices when there is new anti-Semitism in the streets.”
Chancellor Angela Merkel: “These outbursts and utterances are an attack on freedom and tolerance. We cannot and will not tolerate this.”
Turkey’s ambassador, Huseyin A. Karslioglu: “Solidarity with the suffering Palestinian population must not turn into anti-Semitism.” (Forward)
Meanwhile, in international media coverage, there was a disturbing lack of documentation of Hamas terrorist fighters inside Gaza.
“Why haven’t we seen journalists’ photographs of Hamas fighters inside Gaza?” asks the Telegraph.
Many suggest that journalists are being intimidated into not showing Hamas militants committing war crimes, such as firing rockets from civilian neighborhoods and that their news agencies are not saying anything about this.
Eileen Murphy, the Times Vice President for Corporate Communications at The New York Times admitted that “our photo editor went through all of our pictures recently and out of many hundreds, she found two very distant poor quality images that were captioned Hamas fighters by our photographer on the ground.”
Murphy also stated that their Pulitzer-Prize winning photographer, Tyler Hicks, is unable to get photos of Hamas fighters “because they don’t have uniforms or any visible insignia,” adding, “our photographer hasn’t even seen anyone carrying a gun.” (Tablet)
Since July 8, at least 280 Hamas rockets have fallen within Gaza, killing and injuring innocent Gaza civilians. Hamas attributes these bombings and the subsequent fatalities to Israel.
Italian journalist Gabriele Barbati, however, revealed the truth of what is really happening in a Tweet, but only after he left Gaza:
“Out of #Gaza far from #Hamas retaliation: misfired rocket killed children yday [yesterday] in Shati. Witness: militants rushed and cleared debris.”
Barbati described how Hamas rockets being fired from hospitals with the intent of killing Israeli children were misfiring and killing Palestinian children. The Hamas militants then pinned the blame on Israeli weapons.
Former Israeli ambassador to the US Michael Oren described in Israel HaYom how Hamas uses civilians as shields in the hope of drawing Israeli fire causing casualties, which can in turn earn them points in the international media.
“To maximize harm to civilians,” writes Oren, “Hamas fighters operate under the cover of women and the elderly, shoot from inside ambulances, stockpile rockets in schools and prevent civilians from fleeing the places where the fighting is going on.”
This strategy is also based on the knowledge that Israel will hesitate to return fire if it comes from within a residential neighborhood.
Recently, the IDF found the Hamas manual on “Urban Warfare,” which acknowledges that “the soldiers and commanders (of the IDF) must limit their use of weapons and tactics that lead to the harm and unnecessary loss of people and [destruction of] civilian facilities.”
This Hamas Urban Warfare Manual acknowledges that Israel will protect Gaza civilians from injury during retaliation and will provide
for them medical care.
Oren explained the bias presented by the international media, saying, “The media’s obsession stems from many sources. These include authentic empathy with Palestinian suffering, opposition to Israeli policy, and in certain cases loathing for the Jewish state.”
Regardless of the conditions of this war, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an address given to the nation on Saturday promised “to bring back the quiet,” and said that once the tunnels are demolished, “the military will prepare for continuing action in according to our security needs.”
We can only hope that as Operation Protective Edge ends, calm will also return to social conditions throughout the rest of the world with regards to the Jewish people living in the Diaspora.

Mosab Hassan Yousef is a Palestinian and son of a Hamas founder and leader Sheikh Hassan Yousef. From 1997 to 2007, he worked undercover for Israel’s internal security service Shin Bet, supplying information that prevented dozens of suicide attacks and assassinations of Israelis.
Christian Son of Hamas to CNN: “Dying—a Way of Worship”
„You boast, ‚We have entered into a covenant with death, with the realm of the dead we have made an agreement. When an overwhelming scourge sweeps by, it cannot touch us, for we have made a lie our refuge and falsehood our hiding place.” (Isaiah 28:15)
Son of Hamas author Mosab Hassan Yousef recently underscored Hamas‘ fundamental commitment to death and dying.
„They consider dying for the sake of their ideology a way of worship, and how can you continue in that society?“ Yousef told CNN’s Don Lemon in a recent interview. „They were preparing us from the age as young as 5 years old. … Today when I look at the children of Gaza, and I know what they’re fed, I know that they have no choice.“
Yousef was born in Ramallah into this same ideological training ground. His father, Sheikh Hassan Yousef, was not only a founding member of Hamas but „one of its favorite members.“
„Honestly, it is impossible, almost, for anyone to break through and see the truth of—and real face of—Hamas, and be able to leave at some point,“ Yousef said. „In my case, I had to lose everything just to say ’no‘ to Hamas.“
Yousef was involved for years in Hamas‘ political activities „while being groomed to assume his legacy, politics, status … and power,“ writes the description of his 2011 autobiography, Son of Hamas.
Hamas‘ ideological warfare goes beyond killing the Israelis next door. The goal of Hamas is the creation of “an Islamic state on the rubble of every other civilization,” Yousef told Lemon.
He said Hamas‘ ideology is diametrically opposed to the Judeo-Christian ideal.
„In the mosques, Hamas taught us that without shedding innocent blood for the sake of the ideology, we wouldn’t be able to build an Islamic state,“ he emphasized. „Hamas is not seeking coexistence and compromise. Hamas is seeking conquest and taking over.“
In a 2011 Deutsche/Israel Kongress speech, Yousef foresaw the consequences of that takeover: “If Israel fails in the Middle East, western civilization will fail.”
Model of the Second Temple
Temple Institute Launches Campaign for Third Temple Blueprints
„These I will bring to My holy mountain and give them joy in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” (Isaiah 56:7)
Plans are actively underway to create blueprints for the Third Temple.
On the evening of July 27, the beginning of the Nine Days, a period of heightened mourning for the destruction of the Beit HaMikdash (God’s Holy Temple), Jerusalem’s Temple Institute launched a crowdfunding campaign for the new Temple blueprints.
Although the blueprints will cost $300,000, the Indiegogo fundraising campaign is seeking one-third this amount as a strong step toward rebuilding of the Temple.
As of Tuesdaay night, 19% of the goal had been raised.
A model of the Holy Temple at the Temple Institute’s Holy Temple Visitors
Center in Jerusalem.
The campaign description claims that the rebuilt Temple will usher „a new era of universal harmony and peace.“
It is true that there will be a turning to the God of Israel among the nations and worship of Him in the Temple in the last days:
“In the last days, the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and peoples will stream to it. Many nations will come and say, ‚Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways, so that we may walk in His paths.” (Micah 4:1–2; see also Isaiah 2:2)
We also know that in the end time, Yeshua HaMashiach will reign from the Temple and usher in God’s glory:
“I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the roar of rushing waters, and the land was radiant with his glory. … The glory of the Lord entered the temple through the gate facing east. Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.” (Ezekiel 43:2–5)
Levitical instruments created for use in the Holy Temple.
But before that glorious era comes, the Brit Chadashah (New Testament) links this Temple to a time of distress for Israel and the nations.
“Concerning the coming of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah and our being gathered to meet Him … Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.” (2 Thessalonians 2:1–4)
Daniel also speaks of this man of lawlessness.
“He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.” (Daniel 9:27)
The copper laver fit and ready for use in the third Holy Temple.
The fundraising event coincides with a period that culminates with the fast day of Tisha B’Av (the Ninth of Av), the saddest day on the Jewish calendar. This date marks the destruction of both Temples, the start of the first Crusade, the expulsion of Jews from both England and Spain, and the start of deportations to the Treblinka death camp.
The fundraiser is slated to conclude on the joyous eve of Rosh HaShanah (the Jewish New Year), Sept. 25, 2014.
The Institute already has created 60 vessels consistent with their Torah-prescribed form, but Richman says the Temple will only be built when „the world will want us to build the temple.“ (Times of Israel)
He said he believes that Israel has no peace because it has no Temple.
Of course, the Temple Mount is now occupied by the Dome of the Rock. Muslims consider the entire platform to be the Noble Sanctuary and Jews are arrested here for merely moving their mouths in prayer.
Only an act of God moving in the hardest of hearts will make a Jewish Temple on the Temple Mount a reality. And when it happens, the stage will be set for the other Temple-related prophecies to come to pass, including those of Daniel and Paul regarding the rule of the man of lawlessness after 3 1/2 years of peace (Daniel 9:27; 2 Thessalonians 2:4).
World events, celestial signs, and things happening right here in Israel all point to the soon return of Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah).
In these end times as anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism spreads, many would like to erase the Jewish state of Israel and the Jewish People if possible.
But the survival of the Jewish People and the existence of the Jewish State are one of the foremost signs that the Bible is true and that God has a good plan for Israel and the nations.
In these last days, the Jewish People will come to recognize that Yeshua (Jesus) is the Messiah. You can be part of this great end-time move of God by helping us boldly proclaim the Good News of Yeshua to Israel and the nations.
